Best AC2004 Experience (#1464)

There were a lot of enjoyable, informative, and inspiring things at AC2004, but one of the best was getting to have lunch today (courtesy of Phil Wolff) with Doc Searls and one of Doc's serious mover-shaker friends. Listening to these guys riff on Podcasting shed some new light on it -- and it is light, not just heat. This goes right back to what I said Friday. Also finally got to meet Roland Tanglao (briefly) at lunch as he, his wife, and beautiful baby happened to be in the same restaurant. Roland wasn't able to make our dinner Thursday evening.

The conference is winding down. Just listened to a great "debate" between Will Wright (of SIMS 2) and Jaron Lanier. Lots of clear thinking on what the rise of virtual worlds mean for life, the universe, and everything. Had coffee with Frank Paynter over at the Stanford Bookstore. I didn't even recognize Frank, even though I knew his name and have read his excellent weblog. The presentation by B.J. Fogg on Captology - the way computers can persuade us - was fascinating.

So much stuff. Just like last year, I'm sorry it's over. I don't know if there is any real possibility of starting an AC salon in Atlanta, but it would be fun to try and keep the momentum going.

You really should hook up with Mark Finnern [1] who hosts the San Francisco Future Salon [2]. Great guy, lots of experience with this, great programmer (in the event sense of the word). You could use meetup to create and promote your salon[3].

Great seeing you in the Bay Area and thanks for inviting me to dinner. I had a great time.
