Bizarro and Other Strange Manifestations of the Art of Dan Piraro Bizarro and Other Strange Manifestations of the Art of Dan Piraro
by Dan Piraro Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 2006 0-81-099221-3
This is the latest work by skewed social commentator Dan Piraro. Dan is all grown up now. He moved to New York, started doing stage shows, and has lots of money (I hear). He's also a pretty good writer, something you don't really expect from a guy who thinks in pictures. One of the neatest things about reading Dan's book is the commentary on his art. There's no pretense of deep meaning, or namby-pamby artiste bullshit. Lots of it he says he doesn't know what it means — it's there because he sees stuff and wonders "What does that mean?" Dan does all kinds of art. I haven't seen him in years, but from reading the book learned that he's doing stage shows, selling cool clothing and continues to create oil paintings, sculpture, and anything else he can dream up (back in the day when I worked at the same company as Dan Halloween was a riot.) If you're a fan of the Bizarro comic strip and ever wondered just what makes this guy tick, you'll really enjoy Dan's latest collection. If you've never read Bizarro then you probably need to read this more than the Bizarro fans do. Wake up, it's a bizarre world we live in.
