The Scales of Justice

Man gets one year and $3,000 fine for beating wife -- life sentence for spitting on cop.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) -- An Oklahoma man arrested on suspicion of beating his wife faced year in prison and a fine. But when he spit in an arresting officer's face, he got a life sentence instead, officials said Wednesday. [CNN.com]

Hmm. And I was thinking about buying some wooded acreage in Oklahoma. Maybe I'll go to Canada instead.

Those Dangerous Canadians

From GovExec.com comes news about how the Fatherland, er, umm, Homeland Security Dept. is going to keep us safe from those dangerous Canadians.

Homeland Security reassigns hundreds of agents to northern border

More than 375 Border Patrol agents will be reassigned to the country’s northern border as part of the Homeland Security Department’s ongoing effort to increase security on the 4,000-mile boundary between the United States and Canada.

Whew! I know I'll sleep much better tonight.

100 Words

100 words that every high school graduate (and their parents) should know. I'll wager that fewer than 10 percent of the graduating seniors in Georgia could define all these words. There are 10 that I do not know.

100 Words....

100 Words That All High School Graduates Should Know (Webword): "The words we suggest," says senior editor Steven Kleinedler, "are not meant to be exhaustive but are a benchmark against which graduates and their parents can measure themselves. If you are able to use these words correctly, you are likely to have a superior command of the language." [elearnspace blog]

Attitude Adjustment

It has been pointed out to me that I have, as of late, been demonstrating a decidedly bitter and unhumorous disposition. I think it is all the rain. But it is possible that if I knew a woman who wore these I might have a brighter outlook. Not very likely, but possible.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head

It's raining in Atlanta, again... My roof is leaking. Went up in the attic and found two nail holes with water coming through them. Gotta go fix it somehow.
