Stealing Content for Link Spam

I ran across this link-spam page today where someone, probably using an automated script, grabbed the entire content of my post on the public education boondoggle in Cobb County and pasted it onto the bottom on a page full of affiliate links. At least the scurilous pig didn't copy the page - formatting and all - so it's obvious this is nothing but link spam. Nothing to be done about this sort of thing, I suppose, but it still ticks me off. Larger images here and here.

Great Collection of Windows Software on Auction

There’s a great collection of Windows software up for charity auction at eBay. Proceeds go to a worthy cause – the PMC. More details here.

2nd PMC Software Auction is Live: Windows Software Bundle

Five days ago I set up the first auction of PMC Software. All Mac.

Tonight I've set up the first of five auctions of Windows software. There are fewer apps on this disc than are on the Mac disc, but the retail value is almost the same: about $1100!

There's an FTP client and a server, time tracking for projects, spam blocking, web publishing (a high quality editor), an RSS aggregator, three games, a web-based calendar service, and plenty more. Please check it out, and pass on the link through your own site or to anyone you think might be interested!

You'll probably note that I've only listed this one with 90% being donated to the PMC. That's because 95% isn't leaving me enough to cover eBay's fees. If there's anything left after the 90% + the fees, I'll pass it along in a separate donation.

The next Mac CD (or CD's) will go up in a couple of days.

Skype - Disruptive, Not Compelling

Skype appeals to early adopters, offering features and functions that most of us don't know we need. But for now, the service levels are too low, the surprises too frequent. I'm bowing out to wait and see.  [More...]

Update: Separated at Birth - Quark and Correction Tape?

Check out the Scottish Arts Council website, where they proudly sport this logo that looks amazingly like the new Quark logo, which looks amazingly like a roll of correction tape. Although I should no longer be surprised when stuff like this happens, I am. Trademark attorney Marty Schwimmer points to this discussion at Veer. The comments there are interesting. Man, when you've spent 15 years pissing on your customers it really is tough to do something like this in public. [Found via Robert X. Cringely]
